Although the date of the survey is given as 1871-72, careful examination of the map reveals that it must have been updated in the 1890s as it includes the Manchester Ship Canal, which was completed in 1894, but does not include the Trafford Park Industrial Estate which was started in 1897. Places included are: Bradshaw, Harwood, Bolton, Bury, Radcliffe, Heywood, Milnrow, Rochdale, Oldham, Ashton under Lyne, Stalybridge, Hyde, Denton, Levenshulme, Rusholine, part Stretford, Irlam, Tyldesley, Little Hulton, Deane, etc.
